The Person Behind the Business

Meet Jake Turner

Jake Turner grew up in Lexington, Kentucky, learning excavation and construction work alongside his father. That early hands-on experience gave him a practical understanding of soil conditions and drainage that’s shaped how he approaches every job. He started his career as a field technician, spent nearly two decades working in septic installation, repair, and maintenance, and eventually launched Lexington Septic Services to run things the way he believed they should be run — with honest assessments, clear pricing, and work done right the first time.

Outside of work, Jake is married with two kids and enjoys fishing, hunting, and working on his property outside Lexington. He’s building a business he can eventually pass down — which means every customer interaction and every job matters, not just for today, but for the long-term reputation of the company.

How We Work

What We Believe Makes the Difference

Septic service isn’t complicated in principle. Show up when you say you will, do the work properly, charge a fair price, and be straight with people about what their system actually needs. That’s the standard we hold ourselves to on every job.

🔍

Honest Assessments

We don’t look for ways to add scope to a job. When we assess a septic system, we tell you what we actually found and what it means — not what generates the biggest invoice. If a tank just needs a routine pumping, that’s what we recommend. If there’s something more serious going on, we explain it clearly so you can make an informed decision about how to handle it.

Quick Response Times

Septic problems don’t wait for a convenient time, and neither do we. We make it a point to respond to inquiries promptly and get service scheduled quickly. For situations that need urgent attention — a backup, significant odors, or effluent surfacing — we make every effort to get to the property as soon as possible. We know that waiting is not an option when a septic issue is active.

💬

Clear Communication

Before we start any work, we explain what we’re doing and why. After the job, we walk you through what we found. You’ll never receive a bill at the end of a visit that doesn’t match what you were told at the start. If anything unexpected comes up mid-job, we stop and discuss it with you before proceeding — not after.

🏠

Residential Focus

The core of our business is residential service. Homeowners throughout Fayette County trust us with routine maintenance, pre-sale inspections, and everything in between. We understand the concerns that come with homeownership — budget, timing, not wanting to be taken advantage of — and we take that seriously in how we approach every residential job.

🏭

Commercial Capability

We also serve commercial properties, small businesses, and rural commercial sites throughout the Lexington area. Restaurant grease trap cleaning, commercial septic pumping, and system maintenance for multi-unit properties are all part of what we do. Commercial jobs require reliable scheduling and documentation, and we deliver on both.

🎓

Homeowner Education

Jake periodically offers informal workshops for homeowners on septic maintenance basics — what to put in a system, what to avoid, how to recognize warning signs early, and how to get the most life out of a drain field. Educated homeowners make better decisions about their systems, which means fewer emergency calls and lower long-term costs.

Local Knowledge

18 Years of Working in Central Kentucky Soil

Jake didn’t learn septic work in a classroom. He learned it by doing — spending years in the field installing systems, diagnosing failures, and figuring out why some systems perform well for decades while others run into trouble early. A lot of that comes down to soil.

Central Kentucky’s soil varies considerably across a relatively short distance. The clay-heavy ground common through much of Fayette County absorbs effluent slowly, which affects how systems need to be sized and maintained. In some parts of the county, shallow bedrock limits drain field depth. Other areas sit on karst terrain — limestone geology that creates underground drainage patterns requiring a different approach to system design entirely.

Growing up working construction and excavation in this area gave Jake a foundation that most people in the trade don’t have. When he looks at a property, he’s not applying a generic framework — he’s drawing on years of experience with the specific conditions that exist here. That matters when it comes to diagnosing problems correctly, recommending the right system type, and helping a homeowner avoid an expensive mistake.

Most of his early career was spent working on systems across Fayette, Scott, Woodford, Jessamine, Clark, and Madison counties. He’s seen a wide range of system ages, soil conditions, and installation quality — which makes him well-equipped to assess a situation accurately, regardless of what the system looks like on the surface.

Pricing Philosophy

Flexible Pricing Structured Around Your Project

Septic work doesn’t have a standard price list because every property is different. Tank size, system type, site access, the extent of the work needed, and whether the job involves one visit or several all affect what a service actually costs. We don’t believe in quoting a number before we understand what the job involves — and we don’t believe in surprising people at the end of a visit with a bill that’s nothing like what they expected.

Before any work begins, we give you a clear quote that reflects the actual scope of the job. If something unexpected comes up once we’re on site, we discuss it with you before we proceed. You’re in control of what gets done and what gets spent.

For larger projects — drain field work, system installation, or multi-visit repairs — we work with you to structure payment and scope in a way that fits your situation. Not every homeowner is in a position to do everything at once, and Jake understands that. Where it’s possible to phase work in a sensible way, we’ll talk through that option rather than pushing for the full scope upfront.

For commercial accounts, we offer service contracts and scheduled maintenance plans with rates structured for ongoing relationships rather than one-off calls. Businesses that commit to a maintenance schedule get predictable costs and priority scheduling — which makes managing a septic or grease trap maintenance budget straightforward.

Community and Reputation

A Business Built on Referrals

The majority of Lexington Septic Services’ business comes from referrals and repeat customers. That’s not a talking point — it’s a reflection of how Jake has chosen to run the company. When people trust a service provider enough to send their neighbors, family members, and real estate clients to them, that trust was earned through actual experience on actual jobs.

Jake works closely with local real estate agents who rely on him for pre-sale septic inspections. Those agents recommend him because they know he’ll show up when he says he will, deliver a clear written report, and not complicate a transaction with unnecessary findings. He also works with local contractors and builders who need a dependable septic partner on new construction and renovation projects.

That network of professional relationships — built over nearly two decades in the Lexington area — is what allows Lexington Septic Services to respond quickly and coordinate efficiently on jobs that involve other trades or tight timelines.

Jake also maintains a working relationship with the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department, which is particularly useful when navigating the permitting process for new installations or system replacements. Understanding how that process works — and who to talk to — saves time on projects where delays are costly.

Quality of Service

What We Mean When We Say We Do It Right

Good septic service isn’t just about showing up with a pump truck. Here’s what we mean specifically when we talk about quality work.

We Complete the Job Fully

Partial pumping is a shortcut that leaves material in the tank and shortens the effective interval between service visits. We empty the tank completely on every visit. We clean up after ourselves. We put the lid back properly and leave the access point in the same condition we found it — or better. These aren’t extras, they’re just how the job should be done.

We Check What Needs Checking

While the tank is open, we inspect the baffles, check the lid condition, and take a look at the drain field area. These observations take a few minutes and can catch problems early that would cost significantly more to deal with later. We’re not running through a checklist to justify an invoice — we’re paying attention because that’s what experienced technicians do.

We Handle the Disposal Correctly

Septage is regulated waste that has to be transported and processed at a licensed treatment facility. Every load we pump is disposed of through proper, legal channels. This matters for environmental protection and it matters for your peace of mind as a property owner.

We Give You Accurate Information

After every job, we tell you what we found and what it means. If the system is in good shape, we tell you that. If there’s something minor worth watching, we mention it without inflating its urgency. If there’s a real problem that needs attention, we explain it clearly and let you decide how to proceed. We don’t manufacture urgency or recommend services that aren’t needed.

We Help You Get the Most Out of Your System

Jake’s approach has always included educating homeowners — not as a sales pitch, but because a homeowner who understands their system makes better decisions. Knowing how often to have the tank pumped, what shouldn’t go down the drains, how to recognize early warning signs, and what protects the drain field long-term all add up to a system that performs well and costs less over time. We share that knowledge freely on every visit.

We Respect the Property

We’re working on someone’s home or business, and we treat it that way. We park and position equipment thoughtfully, avoid unnecessary disturbance to landscaping, and clean up completely before we leave. How a crew treats a property reflects how they think about the customer — and we take that seriously.
